Top of the world: Brooks launched his Dublin gigs at Croke Park last November

Country music star Garth Brooks has said that his run of Croke Park gigs later this year will be his last ever stadium concerts.

The singer (60) is set to play five dates at the Dublin venue between September 9th September 17th after his original plans for a five-night run in the stadium were cancelled in 2014.

Speaking to the media in Nashville, Tennessee, Brooks told reporters that his final Croke Park gig would be the last stadium shows he ever plays.

Last November, Irish fans snapped up tickets to the singer's string of shows in Croke Park after they were left angry and disappointed following the cancellations in 2014.

All five concerts are now nearly sold-out.

Brooks appeared at Croke Park last November to announce the gigs and said, "It's the greatest privilege to play in Ireland. It's the greatest place to play music and the fact it's Croke Park makes it even better."

Brooks’ planned 2014 shows were cancelled after resistance from local residents and he pulled out after Dublin City Council only gave permission for three shows.

The singer said he would only perform all five or none at all.

Brooks is currently on a US tour and plays country music mecca of Nashville Tennessee, tonight.
