They may be separated by the blue of City and the red of United, but Liam Gallagher and Eric Cantona are kindred spirits (it sez here) so it only seems natural that these two Manc mavericks should team up.

So in a move that will warm the hearts and lager of old school (and maybe even Old Firm) rock `n' roll fans, footie icon Cantona has taken a starring role in Gallagher’s new video for his latest single, Once.

Captured in one continuous shot, the clip features Cantona as the The King (naturally!), an eccentric and debauched monarch who exudes charisma with his every move.

Meanwhile - and in a move we thought we’d never see - Gallagher steps away from the spotlight as The Butler. Cough and, indeed, splutter.

The video was directed by Charlie Lightening (who worked on recent Liam documentary film As it Was) and according to the press statement, "the video encapsulates the message of the song - a nostalgic yearning for a once-in-a-lifetime moment that can’t ever be replicated. But it’s also a celebration of everything that was achieved."

"I’m absolutely thrilled to have Eric Cantona, the last rock 'n’ roll footballer, star in my video for Once," said Liam, who plays Boucher Playing Fields in Belfast on August 19.

"Songs like this don’t come around very often and neither do football players like him."

Cantona expressed his love for Once in an Instagram post, noting "When two Manchester legends meet. Once is my song of the year."

Taken from his second solo album Why Me? Why Not, an early version of the song also features on Liam’s new Acoustic Sessions EP.

Liam commented, "This is the original demo. It’s my favourite version; it’s silky smooth and it's fizzy bubblech. Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream!"
