Saoirse Ronan has received her fourth Oscar nomination in the US, shortlisted in the Best Actress category for Little Women.

She was previously shortlisted for Atonement (Best Supporting Actress, 2008), Brooklyn (Best Actress, 2016) and Lady Bird (Best Actress, 2018).

This year, Ronan is shortlisted alongside Cynthia Erivo (Harriet), Scarlett Johansson (Marriage Story), Charlize Theron (Bombshell) and Renée Zellweger (Judy).

The dark supervillain story Joker leads the shortlist with 11 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor for star Joaquin Phoenix.

The nominees for Best Actor alongside Phoenix are: Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory), Leonardo DiCaprio (Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood), Adam Driver (Marriage Story) and Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes). 

Joker's Todd Phillips is nominated for Best Director alongside Bong Joon Ho (Parasite), Sam Mendes (1917), Martin Scorsese (The Irishman) and Quentin Tarantino (Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood). 

The Irishman, 1917 and Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood have each received 10 nominations.

The awards take place in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 9.
