Viewers have commended Love Island newcomer, Limerick rugby player Greg O'Shea, and much loved Longford model Maura Higgins for representing Ireland well after the pair went on a date.

After his first night in the villa, Greg chose to take Maura on a breakfast date. Maura is currently coupled up with dancer Curtis Pritchard after pursuing him for some time.

In the beach hut after the date, Maura said: "It's kind of good in a way because Curtis might get a bit jealous. I'm glad none of the girls are taking Curtis on a date."

Maura and Greg appeared to hit it off over breakfast, and many viewers took to social media to express their delight at seeing the two Irish natives have a chat.

One commentator said Maura and Greg "have done us proud", while another wrote "Love Island?! LOVE IRELAND, more like. Gwan Maura and Greg."

"Right, Maura and Greg for president, taoiseach, whatever is available", one Twitter user joked.

Also in the episode, Greg took Amber on a date in the Hideaway, which didn't seem to impress Michael, who has had a tumultuous relationship with Amber.

In the beach hut Greg said: "I'm just excited to get stuck in. I've come late to the party."

Speaking to the other islanders Amber said she wanted to "keep an open mind" about Greg and not "shut it down instantly".

Newcomers Harley Brash and India Reynolds took Chris Taylor and Ovie Soko out on dates.

India and Ovie go on a date

Both Chris and Ovie admitted to the other islanders they were interested in India.

Meanwhile, after introducing herself to the girls by the villa's pool, India told she has eyes from Ovie.

"Ovie is gorgeous. Ovie would normally be my type," she tells them.

Love Island continues on Virgin Media Two.
