The nominees for the 71st Emmy Awards have been announced, with Game of Thrones leading the way with a whopping 32 nods.

It has shattered the record for the most nominations for a show in a single season. Last year it led the way at the Emmys with 22 nominations.

The final season of the hit HBO series aired recently to mixed reactions.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel received the second highest amount of nominations with 19

Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel received the second highest amount of nominations with 19, HBO's Chernobyl scored 18 nods, while NBC's Saturday Night Live got 18.

FX's Fosse/Verdon and HBO's Barry got 17 nominations, with Netflix's When They See Us close behind with 16 nods.

Competing with GOT in the coveted drama series category are Better Call Saul, spy thriller Killing Eve, the hit BBC thriller Bodyguard, Netflix crime drama Ozark, HBO comedy-drama Succession, FX drama Pose and NBC's This Is Us.

Killing Eve nominated in the drama series category

The competitive comedy series category includes Phoebe Waller Bridge's Fleabag, NBC's The Good Place, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Bill Hader's Barry, Netflix's Russian Doll, Schitt's Creek and Veep.

The Lead Actor in a limited series category is made up of Mahershala Ali (True Detective), Benicio del Toro (Escape at Dannemora), Hugh Grant (A Very English Scandal), Jared Harris (Chernobyl), Jharrel Jerome (When They See Us) and Sam Rockwell (Fosse/Verdon).

Amy Adams (Sharp Objects), Patricia Arquette (Escape at Dannemora), Aunjanue Ellis (When They See Us), Joey King (The Act), Niecy Nash (When They See Us) and Michelle Williams (Fosse/Verdon) will compete in the Lead Actress in a limited series category.

Fiona Shaw receives two Emmy nods for Fleabag and Killing Eve

Cork-born actress Fiona Shaw has been nominated for two Emmys for her roles in Fleabag and Killing Eve.

The Irish star has been nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category for Killing Eve, a role which earned her a BAFTA earlier this year, and the Guest Actress in a Comedy Series category for Fleabag.

Roscommon's Chris O'Dowd is among the nominees in the Actor in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series category for his work on State of the Union.

The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards honour the best in TV from June 1 2018 to May 31 2019.

The ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on September 22.
