Shannen Doherty is reuniting with six of her former Beverly Hills, 90210 co-stars for the six-episode event series that is due to air in the US this summer.

The series, BH90210, sees Doherty and her co-stars playing what US entertainment trade website Deadline has called "heightened versions of themselves", and not their characters from Beverly Hills, 90210.

The show will see Doherty joined onscreen by Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Ian Ziering, Brian Austin Green and Gabrielle Carteris

Confirming her involvement on Instagram, she wrote: "Yes it's official. The real question is.... will we still be rocking those outfits."

Last month, former Beverly Hills, 90210 star Luke Perry passed away after suffering a stroke.

It is expected that the new series will play tribute to him.

Doherty played Brenda Walsh in Beverly Hills, 90210, the girlfriend to Perry's Dylan McKay.

Speaking to People magazine after his passing, she said: "I am in shock. Heartbroken. Devastated by the loss of my friend. I have so many memories with Luke that make me smile and that are forever imprinted on my heart and mind.

"Luke was a smart, quiet, humble and complex man with a heart of gold and never-ending well of integrity and love. Luke reached out to me during my cancer journey and we picked right back up, albeit older and wiser, but that connection remained intact."

She continued: "There is a special kind of love one has for each other when you are experiencing the journey we did on 90210 and, of course, life in general.

"Luke and I were working on show ideas for us. We wanted to work with each other again and create something special and meaningful for our fans at this stage in our lives.

"I will miss him every day. Every minute. Every second."
