Zac Efron has shared a sneak peek from his highly-anticipated upcoming movie Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, in which he plays notorious serial killer Ted Bundy.
There has been a buzz around the film since it was announced that the Hollywood star would play the infamous American mass murderer last May. Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in the US early next year.
The psychological thriller will be told from the perspective of Bundy's longtime girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer, who is played by Lily Collins.
Kloepfer initially denied accusations against her partner but eventually alerted police to his suspicious behaviour and turned him in to authorities.
Bundy, who was described as handsome and charismatic, was executed in 1989 after being convicted of killing a 12-year-old and two Florida State University sorority sisters.
Before his death he confessed to killing more than 30 women in the 1970s but the true number of his victims is still unknown and could possibly be much higher.
Efron, best known for starring in the High School Musical movies and the Baywatch reboot, has now shared a close-up shot of himself in the role of Bundy.
"Ready for Sundance! #extremelywickedshockinglyevilandvile," Efron wrote along with the photo in which he appeared to be in a courtroom.
Actress Lily Collins also shared a still image from the film which showed her, Efron and a young girl in front of a birthday cake.
"The #SundanceFestival lineup has just been announced and I'm so proud to be included!" she wrote in the caption.
"Here's a glimpse of the film @zacefron and I worked with @joeberlingerfilms and our incredible team, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. Here we go!…."
Acclaimed actor John Malkovich also stars in the film as Edward Cowart, the presiding judge at Bundy's 1979 trial in Florida who sentenced the killer to death.
