The creative team behind Love/Hate have begun filming a new crime-drama for RTÉ, Taken Down, with one of Love/Hate's stars, Lynn Rafferty, in the lead role.

Spiral Pictures' Stuart Carolan (writer-executive producer), Suzanne McAuley (executive producer) and David Caffrey (director) have teamed up with bestselling author Jo Spain for the series.

Rafferty plays Detective Jen Rooney, whose latest case sees her investigating the death of a young Nigerian migrant close to a Direct Provision Centre.

Joining Rafferty in Taken Down are two other former Love/Hate stars, Brian Gleeson and Jimmy Smallhorne, alongside Aissa Maiga (Anything for Alice, Bianco e Nero), Orla Fitzgerald (The Young Offenders, The Wind that Shakes the Barley), Barry Ward (Maze, Jimmy's Hall), Enoch Frost (Skyfall, The Desert) and Slimane Dazi (A Prophet, Rengaine).

Taken Down will film around Dublin for 10 weeks and will be part of RTÉ's new season.

"We have set out to create a world of unique characters in a modern Ireland but in the context of the globalisation of crime," said executive producer McAuley.

"To tell this story, we have brought together a team of highly talented cast and crew from Ireland and across the globe and we are excited to see our stories come to life."

Jane Gogan, Head of Drama, RTÉ Television, said the series has "the promise of something special".

"The story of Taken Down brings us into a world where opportunism meets the forces of Irish and globalised crime," she added.

"This story is very much of the moment and I'm looking forward to introducing Taken Down to RTÉ's audiences."
