Newstalk has announced that George Hook will return to the airwaves this week with a new Saturday radio show.

The radio host stepped down from his lunchtime show High Noon in September after controversy over comments he made about sexual assault.

The 76-year-old broadcaster will return to Newstalk with his feature-led show, Hook's Saturday Sit-In, between 8.00am and 10.00am. The show will include interviews, reviews and items on US politics, travel and music.

Newstalk's new weekend schedule for 2018 will also see some of the Dublin-based station's presenters hosting their own programmes for the first time.

Tech correspondent Jess Kelly will present her new show Tech Talk between 6.00pm and 7.00pm on Sundays, while news presenter Andrea Gilligan will host current affairs and politics-focused Between the Lines from 8.00am to 9.00am on Sunday mornings.

Speaking about the weekend schedule, Chris Doyle of Newstalk said: "We are delighted to announce this exciting new line-up and, in particular, to welcome these new presenters to our weekend schedule, each of whom has proved extremely popular with our audiences, contributing across a range of shows over the past few years."
