EastEnders fans have been told to prepare themselves for twists, new characters and "fresh spice" when Kat Slater, her aunt Jean and grandmother Mo Harris return to Walford next year.

The BBC shared news of the trio's return on the soap's Facebook page, with Jessie Wallace promising that the storylines ahead for her character Kat and family are "incredibly exciting".

"I love Kat and Walford dearly and I cannot wait to get started - watch out Walford, Kat's coming home," she added of her character's return to E20 after an Irish sojourn in spin-off drama Redwater.

EastEnders' executive consultant John Yorke said Albert Square had "never felt quite the same" since Kat, Jean (played by Gillian Wright) and Mo (played by Laila Morse) "scattered to different ends of the country, and in some cases beyond".

"It has been a real joy to find a way to bring them back together and we're incredibly excited about where we are taking them next," he teased.

"It won't just be familiar Slaters either as there are a couple of twists and characters to add fresh spice to an iconic creation."
