Photos of a man who looks a lot like Tom Vaughan Lawlor filming a fight scene with Benedict Cumberbatch for the new Avengers movie have appeared online - leading to speculation that the Love/Hate star could be the film's new villain.

Avengers: Infinity War is currently filming in Atlanta, Georgia and Cumberbatch will return to the screen as Doctor Strange for the outing.

On-set images have appeared online showing Cumberbatch recording a fight scene with a man in a CGI suit who looks whole lot like Irish actor Vaughan Lawlor, who became a household name in Ireland as Nidge in Love/Hate.

While Lawlor's casting has not been announced, and he is referred to as "man in a CGI suit" in the image captions, we'd recognise Nidgey anywhere.

The website also said, "It's not immediately clear who the actor in the CGI suit is, but he had dots all over his face, likely to create his character's look on screen."

Not immediately clear? He was only the king of TV gangsters here for years!

We are awaiting confirmation of Lawlor's casting.

While this may be Lawlor's first big Hollywood blockbuster, he has appeared in a number of high-profile roles since Love/Hate ended in 2014, including P.J. Mara in RTÉ's Charlie and McCabe in Jim Sheridan's The Secret Scripture.

Avengers: Infinity War is slated for release on April 27, 2018.
