Could Liam Payne and Ed Sheeran be teaming up together?

Liam Payne may be the last member of One Direction to release his own solo recordings, but according to reports, he has teamed up with Ed Sheeran to add some hit-making magic to his forthcoming debut single.

This won't be the first time that Payne and Sheeran have worked together, as Ed previously wrote the song Little Things, a charity single for One Direction, which went number one in the UK when it was released back in 2012.

Sheeran and Payne also collaborated on 18, which featured on One Direction's 2014 album Four and now comes the news that the pair are getting together to co-write Payne's first solo single.

Aaccording to The Sun newspaperPayne was in Los Angeles and was told that Sheeran had started to write a song with him in mind.

"Liam rushed back to the UK and the pair of them wrote the track together and then recorded it", the paper quotes an un-named source as saying.

Ed Sheeran: all gain with Liam Payne

Sheeran not only contributed a number of tracks to One Direction albums, but he's also given a boost to the careers of stars like Justin Bieber who enjoyed huge chart success with the song he penned, Love Yourself.

Payne recently welcomed his first child, a boy called Bear, with his girlfriend Cheryl. They first met when he appeared as a 14-year-old contestant on The X Factor in 2008 when she was a judge on the show.

The 23 year old singer previously hinted that his new music would have hip-hop influences, which is musically a million miles away from the likes of Sheeran's recent hit, Galway Girl.

Last week it was revealed that new dad Liam shot a music video with hip-hop group Migos, who confirmed that they've collaborated with Payne. Presumably that's for a later release.

"I just came from a video today," Migos member Quavo told NME. "My boy Liam from One Direction. We just shot that. Crazy vid. Crazy visuals."
