Former 007 Pierce Brosnan has given the "brilliant" Daniel Craig his backing to continue in the role of James Bond, but says there will come a day when the British actor will have to call time on the spy game.

There have been doubts about Craig's future as cinema's most famous spy since the release of the last Bond film SPECTRE in October 2015, when he infamously said he would rather "slash my wrists" than continue with the franchise.

Daniel Craig's last Bond outing was SPECTRE in 2015

Craig is now 49 - the same age Brosnan was when he starred in his last Bond film, 2002's Die Another Day

"There is a definite point where you have to say enough's enough for sure," Brosnan told the Press Association.

"I'm not going to put a number on it."

On the subject of Craig continuing in the role, he added: "It's his for the taking, for sure. Go for it man. He's brilliant."

Reports last year claimed that Craig has been offered $150m for a further two Bond movies, while last month his co-star Naomie Harris, who plays Moneypenny, said she was optimistic Craig would reprise his role as 007

Away from all things Bond, Brosnan is the star of a new TV western series called The Son, which is based on the acclaimed Philipp Meyer novel of the same name. It premieres on AMC on Tuesday April 18.
