The Poetry Programme returns for a new series at 7:30 pm on Sunday 22nd March on RTÉ Radio 1, and in the first programme Olivia O'Leary meets poets Mary O’Malley and Patrick Chapman - listen to it above.
Mary O'Malley was born in Connemara and educated at University College Galway. She lived in Lisbon for eight years and taught at Universidade Nova. She is a member of Aosdána and has won a number of awards for her poetry, including the 2016 Arts Council University of Limerick Writer's Fellowship. She is active in environmental education, specifically marine.

She joins Olivia to talk about and read a selection of poems from her collection Gaudent Angeli, published in 2019 by Carcanet, on topics ranging from concerns for our environment, to the dangers of the internet, to the allure of oranges.
Patrick Chapman has published eight poetry collections since 1991, as well as a novel and three volumes of stories. His other works include a short film, television for children, and audio dramas for Doctor Who and Dan Dare.

His 2019 collection, Open Season on the Moon (Salmon Poetry), has been described as his 'most experimental and engaging collection yet', and he reads a number of poems, including one which brings us into the strange world of film director David Lynch.
