Speaking in Athlone after the formation of a national group of Fianna Fáil Councillors, Taoiseach, Charles Haughey, has announced a review of the structures and function of local authorities. The local elections are to be postponed from next June until the review is completed.

Interview with Haughey who explains why the local elections should not be held in June. He says the government intends carrying out a review of the structure and functions of local authorities to establish what reforms are necessary. He says these reforms should be put in place before the local elections.
