Robert Pattinson has spoken about his nickname 'R-Patz', saying he wants to "strangle" the person who invented it.
The actor said that he hates having to prove that he is not just "the guy from Twilight", saying that he struggled to see himself as a credible actor following his role in the vampire franchise.
Pattinson, who stars in David Cronenberg's latest film Cosmopolis, told The Guardian newspaper: "It is surprising the amount of people who think I'm going to be really dumb.
"I think they think anyone who has done teen movies is just an idiot. I don't know, maybe I am [but] some of the best actors, if you talk to them, they're not the smartest people in the world."
He said that hopes landing the role in Cosmopolis will finally earn him some respect in the film industry.
Pattinson explained: "When I got this part, every single article that came out, was, 'R-Patz's struggle for credibility!'. I don't understand who invented that thing, 'R-Patz', [but] I want to strangle them.
"But once you've made that step everything afterwards [changes]. [The press have] got to come up with something else, so it gets a little bit easier."
