Aslan have cancelled their headlining gig at Tallaght Stadium on June 30 following poor ticket sales – despite slashing ticket prices by 50%.
The Finglas band were due to be joined by Kaiser Chiefs and Royseven to celebrate 30 years in music in what was to be the first concert in Tallaght Stadium, the 6000 capacity venue which opened in 2009 as the homeground of Shamrock Rovers.
Poor tickets sales for the show, which could have accommodated 15,000 fans with standing included, prompted promoters Ragline to slash prices by 50%. However the move did not yield enough sales to enable the concert to go ahead.
Speaking about the cancellation, Aslan’s Billy McGuinness said: “We are all devastated, making the decision to cancel the show has been incredibly difficult and we are truly sorry to the thousands of fans that were looking forward to celebrating with us on June 30th.
“It’s a real sign of the times, we did everything we could to make it work. It costs a lot to run stadium shows, you look around and many of the big shows seem to have difficulty selling these days. People just don’t have the spare cash.
“We tried our best but it just wasn’t to be. We’d have loved to have celebrated our 30 years in such a huge way, but we will find another occasion to do this with the Aslan fans.”
All tickets should be returned to point of purchase for a full refund.
