Fans are anticipating a new face on their screens for the upcoming series of Doctor Who and rumours are circulating that the name of the companion will be 'Clara'.

Though yet to be confirmed by Doctor Who producers or a BBC spokesperson, fans have taken to social media sites to spread the news. One fansite, DoctorWhoTv, announced the name in a post, saying that a reporter heard her addresses as Clara on-set, 'no surname, but that was what she was addressed as in one of the scenes'.

Jenna-Louise Coleman has been cast as the new companion for continuing Doctor Matt Smith. The actress has been snapped shooting Victorian-era scenes in Wales alongside the actor for the next series.

Coleman will replace current companions Amy Pond, played by Karen Gillan, and Rory Williams, played by Arthur Davill.

The series will return for a seventh run on BBC One this Autumn. Doctor Who is listed as the longest-running sci-fi series of all time in the Guinness Book of World Records. Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the show.
