The Cannes Film Festival came to a quiet close last night as the final red carpet event took place, with many of the stars choosing to save their best looks for last.

Diane Kruger, a juror for the festival, has not disappointed with each red carpet event. The German actress wore a Christian Dior couture ballgown to the closing ceremony in Cannes, which included a bouffant skirt.

The grey and white checkered gown stole the show, complete with sporadic black, floral, lace detail. The actress changed into a little more comfortable Jenny Packham dress after the event as she posed with boyfriend, Joshua Jackson, for the evening dinner.

Though her film did not receive an overwhelmingly positive response, Kylie Minogue kept her head high on the final night of Cannes. Wearing a lavender-blue Roberto Cavalli gown, the pint-sized Australian looked like royalty on the red carpet. We wish she had her hair doing something more memorable to elevate the look to its best, though.

Alec Baldwin and fiancée Hilaria Thomas again looked picture perfect on the red carpet. Earlier last week the loved-up couple stormed the red carpet looking like classic cake-topping bride and groom in black and white. For the closing ceremony, they both opted for sleek black and looked sensational while doing so.

Another couple who shone on the red carpet were French couple Jean Dujardin and Alexandra Lamy. The two actors looked great in their threads, with Lamy looking particularly glamorous in her white gown with sparkling silver beading.

Dujardin's co-star from Oscar-winning The Artist, Bérénice Bejo, acted as mistress of ceremonies for the closing event in an ethereal white gown with belted detail.

French actresses were, of course, omni-present throughout the festival and they certainly didn't disappoint during the closing ceremony. Audrey Tatou looked particularly French and stylish wearing a vintage tea gown, in cream, with an embroidered bodice and simple nude pumps.

Mélanie Doutey wore a stunning, beaded Pucci gown with a plunging neckline and dangerous thigh-high slit in the centre. The sparkling black and white gown needed little else to steal the spotlight from many other actresses.

American actress Andie MacDowell brought along her daughter, Sarah Margaret, to the closing ceremony. MacDowell wore a white, strapless Emporio Armani gown while her daughter wore a green Elie Saab dress with beaded bodice. Both wore their hair back and looked as youthful and fresh as each other.

Finally one of the most polarising looks of the night came fron Belgian actress and French television anchor, Virginie Elfira. Wearing a barely-there slip of a dress in ivory, Elfira certainly made heads turn while giving Angelina Jolie's signature pose a run for its money.
