Matt Cardle is said to be "relieved" after going separate ways with his record label.

The When We Collide singer is reported to be delighted to finally have control over his music.

Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday newspaper a source said: "Matt felt like Simon Cowell never wanted him to win The X Factor. When he did, it was clear that executives at the label didn't know what to do with him."

"Matt is adamant the decision to part ways was mutual. To be honest, he's thrilled to be working with a new team who see him as a long-term serious artist and not just another commodity.

"Matt has lots of ideas in the pipeline and he can't wait to get back out there and show people the kind of musician he really is. He's already been busy recording new tracks for his second album."
