Taylor Swift reportedly wants to play iconic singer Joni Mitchell in an upcoming movie.

The country-pop singer, who has previously starred in The Lorax and Valentine's Day, is said to be circling the part of the Both Sides Now singer in an adaptation of Sheila Weller's book Girls Like Us.

"She’s looking for the right role, and this could be it," a source tells Gossip Cop, though it is stressed that the movie has not been green-lit just yet.

Carly Simon and Carole King are also explored in the book, but it is claimed that no actresses are in discussions for either part at the moment.

Swift was allegedly close to landing a pivotal role in the Les Miserables adaptation alongside Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried, but the part eventually went to former I'd Do Anything star Samantha Barks.

The Love Story hitmaker appears on Justin Bieber's new album Believe, on a duet which his girlfriend Selena Gomez has called "beautiful".
