Dannii Minogue and Kris Smith have taken to Twitter to confirm the reports that their relationship is over.
The singer and model Smith both announced they had parted ways after four years together with similar postings on their Twitter pages.
Minogue wrote: "It brings me great sadness to tell you that Kris and I have separated.
"We still care for each other and ask for privacy at this difficult time, in particular for our son Ethan who remains our number one priority."
She added she was planning to take a break from the micro-blogging site as she adjusts to her new life as a single mother.
Minogue tweeted: "Hi Tweet peeps. Needing to retreat for a while. Thank you for your ever loving continued support."
Meanwhile, Smith wrote on his page: "Dannii and I have a deep mutual love and respect for each other and although things have not worked out we have a gorgeous son together that we both love and implore everyone to respect our privacy at this challenging time."
It was reported by the Australian media on Tuesday that Smith moved out of the home he shared with Minogue around two weeks ago.
Sources claimed last summer that the couple's relationship had been placed under pressure as a result of the former X Factor panellist's busy work schedule.
