Lady GaGa topped a spectacular MTV awards bash in Belfast last night.

"Belfast should be so proud - this city rocks," Lady GaGa told the Daily Mirror on a night she scooped four awards including best song, best video, best female act and biggest fans. Justin Bieber, whose girlfriend Selena Gomez hosted the event, claimed two prizes for best pop act and best male. Bruno Mars also bagged a brace, being named best new artist and best push act.

Surprisingly Linkin Park pipped Coldplay to best rock act and Queen received the global icon award, with band members Brian May and Roger Taylor on hand to pick up their honour.

The ceremony opened with Coldplay performing Every Teardrop is A Waterfall and it included a tribute to the late Amy Winehouse. An emotional Jessie J spoke of the late star. “I never got to thank Amy for breaking boundaries as I truly believe without her I wouldn't be standing here today," she said.
