MasterChef winner to pursue dream

Mary Carney, winner of the inaugural MasterChef Ireland, is taking a career break to pursue her culinary dream. "I would like cooking to be my career," she told TEN News. “I’m quite keen to write recipes, do some food writing and I have set up a website as well – www.marycarney.net . There’s a lot I don’t know but what I do know is that I will give it my best shot.”

Of course Ross Lewis, chef and proprietor of the Michelin-starred Chapter One had already promised Mary a job in his kitchen – whether she won or not. And Mary’s going to take him up on that.

Meanwhile her trophy, somewhat appropriately, takes pride of place on top of the TV and she remains friends with fellow finalist Brídín, who lives ‘just around the corner’ in Dublin. But Carney still hasn’t kicked some bad habits. “Let’s say I still create a mess but I tidy up now whereas before my husband, Mike, would do it before,” she says. “That’s another reason why he deserves the trophy.”
