Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas has announced that he will be leaving the Channel 4 soap at the end of his current contract.

The star, who plays the character of Warren Fox on the show, will film his final scenes in October.

Lomas told New magazine that he is leaving the programme to pursue other projects.

He explained: "Last time I left, the recession hit and there wasn't much being made. It's starting to pick up and I wanted to give it another crack of the whip. I want something completely different to Warren to show people I'm versatile."

The actor stressed that his fiancée Kym Marsh and his family, come before his career, and a move to Los Angeles was not on the cards. He told the magazine: "I've got my kids here. Moving out there permanently is out of the question.

"Yeah, I'd love to go out and do a pilot season because it's always been a dream of mine. Kym has been nothing but 100% behind me. That's the way a partnership is. In terms of people saying she's going to lose me to Hollywood, that's nonsense. We've just bought a house, we've got a baby."

When asked if the door would left open for his character to return, Lomas replied: "I would like to think they would. I'll have to wait and see."

Lomas originally starred in Hollyoaks from 2006 to 2009, when Warren appeared to be killed off in a fire at his nightclub The Loft. However, he returned to the show last year in a shock storyline which saw him wreak havoc on the village.
