A Coronation Street character will allegedly leave the street after developing a brain tumour, a report has claimed.

Warning: Spoiler alert!

The character Chris Gray, who is played by actor Will Thorp, is said to develop a brain tumour, and is told it's too late for surgery.

The News of the World reports that he then dumps girlfriend Maria Connor (Samia Smith) to get back with Cheryl (Holly Quin-Ankrah).

He says to his girlfriend: "I'm sorry Maria but I'm dying. I have to handle this my way. I can't do that whilst we're together."

Cheryl and Chris are then said to leave Weatherfield for good with their son Russ (Finton Flynn).

A Coronation Street insider told the newspaper: "It will be a sad end for Samia and Will, who have grown very close since we paired them up - but dating your on-screen lover is a lot of added pressure."

Thorp, whose exit from the soap was reported last month, has been dating Smith in real life since January.
