Aston Villa footballer and county Cork native Stephen Ireland, has asked his girlfriend Jessica Lawlor to marry him.
Stephen, 24, and Jessica, 25, flew with a group of friends to California, where they then hired a yacht, to take them to Catalina Island.
According to The Sun, Ireland hid the enormous ring in his swimming trunks before he got down on one knee, as the sun set over the island.
A source told the newspaper: "Jess just kept saying 'Oh my God' - then of course she said yes. It must have cost £25,000, and he was very romantic."
