The head of Channel 4 has sent a letter to Katie Price apologising for an offensive joke that Frankie Boyle made about her son Harvey on his show Tramadol Nights.
Chief executive David Abraham wrote to the reality star after the television watchdog Ofcom upheld an official complaint by her solicitors. Harvey, who is eight years old suffers from numerous physical and mental conditions.
Defending Channel 4' decision to air Boyle's comments, The Sun quote Abraham telling Price: "I appreciate the very personal perspective to your letter and I would like to reassure you that we never set out to offend or cause distress to your son."
"As we made clear in our submission to Ofcom, our detailed internal commissioning process meant that we were satisfied that you, and not your son, were the object of the satire."
Price's legal team described the comments as "discriminatory, offensive, demeaning and humiliating".
During the six-week run of Tramadol Nights the regulator received approximately 500 complaints.
