'Coronation Street' star Jack P Shepherd reckons wayward couple David Platt and Kylie Turner are a match made in soap heaven
It was the storyline nobody saw coming when it was announced in January that 'Coronation Street's' David Platt and Becky MacDonald’s sister Kylie (Paula Lane) are set to wed later this year. The tearaway young lovers get to know each other better while David is on holidays in Tenerife.
The storyline kicks off this Thursday when David returns from the sun and reveals to Gail and Audrey that he met a cage dancer called Candy. However, the truth is he hooked up with Kylie who has been working in a seedy club on the Canary Island.
But before they find out Candy’s real identity, David has another shock in store for his long suffering mother as Shepherd reveals to RTÉ Ten; “David drops another bombshell and announces they’re engaged, they did it by text. He texted her to ask to get married, she replied and said yes, so he’s going to buy a ring.”
When ‘Candy’ finally arrives on the Street it’s fair to say there are a few open mouths when they realise that ‘Candy’ is actually Kylie. Shepherd said; “Gail thinks she’s trouble, she’s Becky’s sister and she knows her type. Becky gives her a bad reception too when they walk into the Rovers, even Tina and Graeme are quite shocked.”
But Shepherd is adamant that this relationship is not just a flash in the pan and that their common love of scheming will keep them together. He said; “They’re similar characters just the opposite sex really. They do anything to shock, they’re always scheming, they’re happy to blackmail anyone to get what they want – they’re the perfect match.”
