Terry Wogan is Gay Byrne's first guest in the new series of his spiritual programme 'The Meaning of Life'.
In Sunday night's show, Wogan discusses his Limerick upbringing and his experiences of Catholicism as a young boy.
"You were always committing sin," he says. "You know, pick your nose, you're committing a sin. And going into confession, you used to make up sins so that you weren't wasting the priest's time. Ridiculous!"
Wogan tells Byrne that while he is not a believer now, he respects those who have "the gift of faith" and also discusses what he feels was the secret of his success as a broadcaster.
'The Meaning of Life' is on RTÉ One on Sunday at 10:30pm.
