Tribeca honours war-themed films

Tristan Bauer's Argentine/Spanish film about the 1982 Falklands War with the UK has won the award for Best Narrative Feature at Robert De Niro's Tribeca Film Festival in New York.

'Iluminados por el fuego' ('Blessed by Fire') tells the story of a Malvinas/Falklands War soldier.

'The War Tapes', which features footage from American soldiers in Iraq and was directed by Deborah Scranton, took the Best Documentary feature prize.

Linda Hattendorf won the Audience Award for 'The Cats of Mirikitani', a documentary about a homeless 80-year-old Japanese-American artist who lost family and friends to both WWII internment camps in the US and Hiroshima's atomic bombing.

The Tribeca Film Festival was born out of the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks after De Niro set up the festival the following year to help revitalise Manhattan.

This year's festival opened with the world premiere of Paul Greengrass' controversial docudrama 'United 93'.
