Larne’s Conor Ferguson set a new Irish record in the 200m backstroke final as he claimed gold at the Swim Ireland’s Dave McCullagh Memorial/Swim Ulster International in Bangor.
The 16-year-old clocked two minutes 1.56 seconds to break Karl Burdis’ 2009 senior record.
Brendan Hyland (SINACPC/Tallaght) became the first Irish swimmer to break 54 seconds in the 100m butterfly as he dramatically lowered his own national record from 54.21 to 53.59 to finish ahead of his rivals in the final.
Ards finished off the championships on a huge high as they broke the Irish club relay record in the 400m medley.
Rebecca and Emma Reid, Zoe Thompson and Bethy Firth completed a clean sweep of the relay events to take gold and a place in the record books in 4:21.26.
Next up for Irish swimmers is the Irish Open Championships which take place at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin at the end of April.
