Jack Grealish appears to have poured cold water over reports that he was set to commit his international future to the Republic of Ireland.
A number of daily newspapers reported that the Aston Villa midfielder was in line for a call-up to Martin O’Neill’s side for next month’s friendly against the USA in Dublin.
The 19-year-old Aston Villa midfielder has represented Ireland at Under-21 level but England have also shown an interest in the Birmingham native, who this week signed a new deal with the Villans.
The player has remained quiet on the speculation but played for Ireland Under-21s against Germany last month, and is believed to have turned down the chance to train with the senior team as he concentrated on securing a new contract with the Premier League club.
However, this morning a post on his Twitter account read: “Some stuff in the papers today about me that I didn't even no myself (sic)”
Grealish, who has made five appearances for the Premier League club this season, would still be eligible for England until he plays in a competitive international for O’Neill’s side.
