Shay Given will enjoy his summer break before making a decision on his Ireland future, while Damien Duff already knows his, writes Glenn Mason.
The two have been stalwarts of the Republic of Ireland team since the 1990s but it appears their international careers could be at an end.
Given said: " I don't know yet. It's too soon after the game to make any rash decisions.
"I'll sit down with my kids and my wife and family when I get home and just see what the best plan of action is."
"Obviously we've got a new manager at Aston Villa," Given added. "I'd like to speak to him and see what's the best plan for everyone."
Ireland's final Euro 2012 group game against Italy was Duff's 100th cap and it's a moment he will cherish. He would have loved it to be a winning performance but admitted Ireland were outclassed by technically superior teams.
"I know what I'm gonna do but I don't think it's the time or the place to start announcing anything like that," Duff said.
"It's important to evaluate and talked about how the team has done and maybe talk about the future," added Duff.
"Yeah it was nice obviously but I think it's something I'll look back on maybe in years to come - 100 caps and captain my country. But all I was really concentrating on was just getting a win and getting a bit of pride back.
"I suppose we can say over the three games we just weren't good enough. It would have been nice to go out with a win tonight. I think we huffed and puffed again but weren't quite good enough."
It was also an unsatisfactory night personally for Given as his failure to deal with Antonio Cassano strike led to Italy's first goal, yet he believes the team performance was a vast improvement on the those against Croatia and Spain.
He said: "It's disappointing, of course, but I felt we could have at least put a performance in tonight that the fans can be proud of.
"I know we haven't taken anything from the game. I felt it was our best game in the three games in how we played tonight as a team. The disappointing thing is not to get a point or three to give the fans something to really sing about.
"It's been disappointing but would you rather be here than not at the European Championship. Of course we'd rather be here and of course we would have rather got better results and got more points on the board. That's the bottom line."
