Dundalk and Galway United is the only all-Premier League tie in the Ford FAI Cup third round, after the draw was held live on RTÉ's MNS.
FAI Ford Cup holders Sligo Rovers have been paired with Limerick junior club Pike Rovers FC.
Bit O'Red boss Paul Cook admitted it was a trip into the unknown in terms of awareness of his side’s opponents.
'We're delighted with the draw. To be drawn at home first is important. Pike Rovers is a new name to me,' said Cook.
'We'll have to do a bit of research on them. These games are very important to clubs. We'll have to do our homework and act in the utmost professional manner.'
Last season's beaten finalists Shamrock Rovers will also enjoy home advantage after they were paired with Athlone Town, while their city rivals Bohemians will host Cork's Douglas Hall.
The draw also threw up some intriguing local derby games as Cork City were drawn away to Midleton, while St Patrick’s Athletic will have a short trip to Crumlin for their game.
