Late goals from Lee Bowyer and Lee Carsley saw Birmingham City safely through to the third round of the Carling Cup after they survived a scare at Southampton.

The League One side went ahead through a superb goal from academy starlet Adam Lallana, and were for long periods the better side.

But old stagers Bowyer and Carsley struck within three minutes of each other as the Premier League Blues squeezed through.
