Barcelona avenged their September defeat in the French capital by beating Paris St Germain 3-1 at Camp Nou to claim top spot in Champions League Group F.

PSG's home victory over the Catalan giants saw them take control of the pool for the rest of the autumn but Barca made sure to seize the opportunity to leapfrog them in Wednesday night's return meeting.

An early opener from their former employee Zlatan Ibrahimovic meant they had to rally from behind and they would, with goals from Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez steadily tightening the hosts' grip on the game.

With 15 points from six games Barca claimed first place and therefore a last-16 encounter with a second-placed team from another group while PSG, who accrued 13 points, can expect to face the likes of Real Madrid or Chelsea.

Lasse Schone scored a double as Ajax booked their place in the Europa League from Group F with a comprehensive 4-0 win over APOEL Nicosia.

Schone opened the scoring from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time before doubling his side's advantage at the Amsterdam ArenA shortly after the beak.

Davy Klaassen headed in the third with Arkadiusz Milik's low strike in the 74th minute wrapping up a comfortable.

CSKA Moscow's Champions League and indeed their European campaign ended with a 3-0 defeat to Group E winners Bayern Munich.

The Russians were one of three sides involved in a confusing tug-of-war to qualify behind Bayern, but this loss and Manchester City's 2-0 win at Roma means the English side progress and CSKA do not even get the consolation of the Europa League.

They could simply not keep their side of the bargain, with Thomas Muller's penalty - his club-record 24th goal in the competition - and strikes from Sebastian Rode and Mario Gotze doing for them.

Max Meyer secured Schalke's progression to the last 16 of the Champions League as his goal sealed a 1-0 win at Maribor in Group G.

The Bundesliga side needed a victory over Maribor and for group leaders Chelsea to beat Sporting Lisbon in the group's other game to progress.

The group was in the balance, however, as a win for Maribor would see the Portuguese club go through.

Meyer scored the decisive goal in the 62nd minute to set up a nervy last half hour at Stadion Ljudski vrt, and with Chelsea beating Sporting 3-1 at Stamford Bridge, all Schalke needed to do was hold on to claim second place in the group.

Champions League qualifiers FC Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw in Portugal after their progress to the competition's last-16 had already been secured.

Taras Stepanenko gave Shakhtar a 51st-minute lead, but Porto - who ended up winning Group H by a five-point margin - equalised two minutes from time through Vincent Aboubakar.

Athletic Club secured a place in the Europa League from the group after two second-half goals saw them home 2-0 against BATE Borisov at San Mames.

Mikel San Jose's strike shortly after the restart put Bilbao on course to retain an interest in European competition this season.
And Markel Susaeta made sure of the victory with a late finish after making the most of superb approach work by Borja Viguera.
