Sligo Rovers' SSE Airtricity League clash with Finn Harps, which was abandoned after 86 minutes due to floodlight failure with the sides level at 1-1, will go down as a draw.
The league has ruled that the score at the time of the blackout will stand as the result of the game.
Chris Lyons had given Rovers an 11th-minute lead, but Harps hit back in the 83rd minute with a Damien McNulty volley. It's newly promoted Harps' first point on the road this season.
“As League Director I have decided to allot the points according to the goals scored at the time of the abandonment as per Rule 19.16 of the Participation Agreement. The final score of the game is Sligo Rovers 1 Finn Harps 1,” said Fran Gavin.
Speaking after the match Sligo boss Dave Robertson told the club's website: "From our point of view it’s frustrating, we wanted to continue the game. There was four minutes left and two minutes of injury time so only six minutes but we can only control what happens on the pitch.
"I think we could have won it. There was belief in the players. I brought the players over and we spoke very positively about how we were going to go into the last few minutes and the bits that we were going to do."
Rule 19.16 of the Participation Agreement deals with Abandoned or Unfinished Matches and states: If, through any cause whatever, a match has been abandoned before completion of the full ninety (90) minutes, the League Director shall have the power, at his discretion, to allot the points according to the goals scored at the time of such abandonment or order the match be replayed in its entirety, on a date to be fixed by the League Director.
In the event of a match not being played to a finish for any reason beyond the control of either Club, the Home Club will retain the gate for the unfinished match, and in the re-fixed match the gate shall be divided evenly between the two Clubs. In such event, the Home Club shall make a return in writing of the gate receipts to the League Director within five (5) days of the re-fixed match taking place.
Both clubs were informed of the decision on Monday morning.
