Transfer news: Liverpool set to miss out on £53m Alex Teixeira

Liverpool appear to have been priced out of a January move for forward Alex Teixeira after Shakhtar Donetsk's chief executive Sergei Palkin set the fee at £53m - for a summer transfer.

The Reds opened negotiations with the Ukrainians last week after chief executive Ian Ayre flew out to their winter training camp in Florida.

However, after a £24m offer was declined talks have continued but the two parties are so far apart in their valuation of the 26-year-old Brazilian it now seems unlikely there will be any deal done before the transfer window closes.

"Liverpool stopped after an offer of £24m and a £3m bonus," Palkin told Ukrainian television channel Football 1.

"We obviously refused to accept it. This is the last number that was announced. Our position is that we do not want to sell Teixeira today.

"We will sell him only at the end of the season. We need to have some good results in the Europa League and the Ukraine championship.

"At the end of the season we will sit down at the negotiating table. Teixeira has a compensation charge in his contract - the price is £53m.

"Please, if someone wants him - let them come and declare themselves."

Girondins Bordeaux have agreed a deal for their Tunisia winger Wahbi Khazri to move to Sunderland

No financial details were given but Sky Sports television reported a £9m fee had been agreed with the relegation-threatened Premier League club.

Bordeaux said in a statement that Khazri would travel to England to negotiate personal terms.

The French club said they were actively looking at a number of possible replacements for the French-born 24-year-old who is Bordeaux's top scorer in the league this season with five goals. Bordeaux are 10th in the 20-team standings.

Sunderland, second from bottom in the league and four points adrift of safety, signed Ivory Coast central defender Lamine Kone from Bordeaux's rivals FC Lorient this week.

In a busy transfer window for the north-east club, they have also recruited Senegal striker Dame N'Doye on a season-long loan from Turkey's Trabzonspor and defender Jan Kirchhoff from Bayern Munich.

Mousa Dembele has signed a new contract with Tottenham which ties him to the club until 2019.

The 28-year-old attacking midfielder joined Spurs from Fulham in 2012. He has started 16 Premier League games for the north London club this season, scoring three league goals.

The Belgium international told the club's official website: "I am very happy I've signed and I'm happy to be part of our future.

"The way we're playing, the way the club is developing, everything is very good and everyone wants to be part of this team and this club. That's why I'm proud to extend my contract."

Mike Williamson

Wolves have completed the signing of Mike Williamson from Newcastle United for an undisclosed fee.

The 32-year-old has penned an 18-month deal at Molineux after Wolves beat off competition from Sheffield Wednesday.

The centre-back played five Sky Bet Championship games on loan for Wolves between October and November before being recalled by the Magpies to cover for injuries.

He failed to play after recovering from a hamstring problem and leaves St James' Park having made 170 appearances in six years.

"When I left after the loan spell I spoke to the gaffer and he expressed the desire to make it permanent and I said that the feeling was mutual," Williamson said.

"I had a fantastic time here and I'm just glad it has been sorted out and I get back to playing."
