Transfer news: Everton swoop for Leeds defender

Everton have had a bid accepted for Leeds defender Sam Byram.

The 22-year-old is out of contract at the end of this season and the Toffees have agreed a fee which is likely to be worth up to £5million.

Everton will now discuss personal terms with Byram, who has been extensively scouted by a number of Premier League clubs.

Byram is a long-term option which could provide a short-term fix as manager Roberto Martinez is currently short of cover at right-back.

Republic of Ireland international Seamus Coleman is sidelined for another three weeks with a calf strain sustained in last week's Capital One Cup semi-final first-leg victory over Manchester City, while Tyias Browning has been ruled out for the season with a knee injury and veteran Tony Hibbert's fitness issues mean he has not played a match in 13 months.

John Stones, who has established himself as first choice in the centre of defence alongside captain Phil Jagielka, filled the void in Wednesday's goalless draw at Manchester City but the arrival of Byram, a Leeds academy graduate who has turned down the offer of a new contract, would give Martinez some much-needed back-up.

Arsenal have announced the signing of midfielder Mohamed Elneny from Swiss club Basle.

The 23-year-old Egypt international won three consecutive Super League titles with Basle and also played in European competition.

Elneny is expected to offer some much-needed cover in midfield, with the likes of Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla still recovering from injury.

Arsenal added the deal was "subject to the completion of regulatory processes", but hope Elneny could feature in the squad at Stoke on Sunday.

Sunderland have signed Senegal striker Dame N'Doye on loan from Trabzonspor for the rest of the season.

The 30-year-old has Barclays Premier League experience having played for Hull last season, scoring five goals in 15 appearances before moving to Turkey in August.

Black Cats boss Sam Allardyce told the club website: "Dame will bring something different to our forward options.

"Having already played in the Premier League, he should have no problems in hitting the ground running, too, which is very important at this stage of the season."

After spells with Academica in Portugal and Greek sides Panathinaikos and OFI Crete, N'Doye enjoyed the most prolific spell of his career at FC Copenhagen, scoring 59 goals in 104 appearances.

His stint in Denmark ended in 2012 when he joined Lokomotiv Moscow, and his form there earned him a move to Hull.

He will not be available for Saturday's trip to Tottenham because formalities pertaining to his work visa still need to be completed.

Tottenham have signed teenage midfielder Shilow Tracey from Ebbsfleet United.

The 17-year-old was invited for a trial in October and travelled with the club's under-18s to play at the IMG Cup in Florida last month.

Tracey scored twice in victories over Jacksonville Armada and Baltimore Celtic, leaving Spurs suitably impressed to open talks with Ebbsfleet over a permanent move, and he is now set to continue his development at the White Hart Lane club.

The young midfielder is comfortable playing either in a central role or further forward behind a striker, although he has only featured once for Ebbsfleet's first team.

Tracey will join Tottenham's academy under the direction of head of player development John McDermott.
