Former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Kieran Sadlier has become the latest player to join Sligo Rovers.

The midfielder moves to Sligo from English League One club Peterborough United until the summer.

Sadlier began his career with West Ham United and spent ten years with the Hammers, playing with their Under-21 side.

He left to move to Scottish Premiership side St Mirren in February 2015, lining out 11 times until the end of the season.

Current Sligo boss Dave Robertson signed Sadlier for Posh last June but he failed to make an impact with the first team and joined Halifax Town for a loan spell that ended this weekend.

The 21-year-old has been a regular part of Ireland underage squads from Under-15 level right up to the Under-21s.

Robertson is delighted to bring Sadlier to The Showgrounds: “Kieran is a player that I do rate very highly. He is a very exciting player and is a versatile attacker. He will come here with a very good footballing pedigree.

“He is someone that I know very well and I have enjoyed working with him in the past. He will be an excellent signing for us for 2016.

“He’s an attack-minded midfield player that can play on either wing. He’s comfortable taking the ball into feet in tight spaces.

“He’s also got great pace and is six feet tall so is physically strong too. He’ll be a big threat for us and is another one who adds strength to our attacking options, he will help us play with the attacking flair that I want.

“He learned a lot at West Ham and experienced a lot and then he came to get a taste of league football with myself at Peterborough. He’s coming to Sligo now and I think it will be a great career move for him and is great signing for the club. When the fans get to see him play they will be really excited.

“I still think that he can go on to play at a very high level. He is exciting and full of potential. I think that this move can help catapult his career and go on to play at a high level again.”
