Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill has said if he had been listening to the RTÉ soccer punditry team there would have been little chance of his side fighting back to qualify for Euro 2016.
Speaking at the RTÉ Sport Awards, O'Neill, who is nominated for manager of the year, said that thankfully he did not listen to them as Ireland qualified for the tournament.
O'Neill said that after the drawn game against Scotland in the summer, Ireland needed to gain three points on the Scots in the last four games.
The Derry man said "I always felt we had a chance, Scotland had to go to Georgia.
"Effectively we had to take nine or ten points from the last four games. I didn’t think it was beyond us, I also felt Scotland’s games were still difficult, and so it proved to be."
O'Neill also heaped praise on the "continuously outstanding" Jon Walters, who is nominated for sports person of the year.
He said the Stoke player "came up in big moments in games" for Ireland.
