Ireland defender Seamus Coleman is a major doubt for Everton's Premier League clash with Sunderland on Sunday because of a stomach bug, the club have announced.

Martin O’Neill’s men face Bosnia-Herzegovina in a two-leg Euro 2016 play-off on 13 and 16 November and can ill afford to be without the 27-year-old right-back.

Everton boss Martinez said: "He couldn't be involved on Tuesday and he's a huge question mark for the weekend at the moment.

"He's had a stomach bug, nothing serious but he's lost a lot of weight and he's going to take a bit of time.

"We'll keep an eye on him but the weekend might just come too soon."

Both John O’Shea, in the Sunderland squad for the game but rated doubtful with a hamstring injury, and Stoke’s Jon Walters are suspended for the first leg away in Zenica.

Southampton’s Shane Long is recovering from an ankle injury but O’Neill said during the week that he is hopeful the goal-scoring hero in the 1-0 win over Germany will be available for selection.
