PFAI confirms LOI player has failed drugs test

The Professional Footballers' Association of Ireland has confirmed that it is representing a League of Ireland player who failed a drug test for a banned substance.

The player in question has not featured recently for his club and has waived his right to have a B sample tested.

A statement from the PFAI read: "The matter will now proceed to a disciplinary hearing and the player will be contesting the charge for reasons which must remain confidential.

"The player has a right to anonymity until the disciplinary process has been completed and we would ask all media, including those engaging in social media, to respect his privacy and allow the matter to reach a conclusion without further speculation or comment.

"PFA Ireland will not be commenting any further until all disciplinary procedures have been completed."
