Ireland's Stephanie Roche is one of three nominees for the FIFA Puskas Award for goal of the year and you can watch the result live on RTÉ Player from 5.30pm on Monday 12 January.

The award will be the result of a public vote and if you have not yet voted for Roche's wonder goal for Peamount United, you can do so here.

The 25-year-old's strike came while playing for the Peas against Wexford Youths in October 2013.

In order to facilitate the public vote over recent months, the Puskas Award will be given to the best goal scored between October 2013 and October 2014

Roche is up against goals scored at the 2014 World Cup by Colombia’s James Rodriguez and the Netherlands’ Robin van Persie.

Speaking to RTÉ Sport, an excited Roche said: "Anybody who competes at whatever level in sport will understand that having made the final three, it is only natural to believe that you want to go and win it.

"I’m hoping that people will continue to vote for me. I don’t want to get my hopes up or put a jinx on anything, but it would just be brilliant to win. Some people thought the voting was finished, so things did go dead for a while. We need to spread the word again.

"Hopefully people won’t get sick of me asking them for their vote and if they vote more than once then that would be great.”

The Puskas Award will be announced as part of the annual FIFA Ballon d'Or ceremony in Zurich and the entire event will be shown live on RTÉ Player, with highlights on RTÉ2 from 11.15pm.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Manuel Neuer are all nominated for the 2014 Ballon d'Or, with the Portugal captain the hot favourite to retain his player of the year crown.
