Soccer: Celtic receive ticket boost ahead of Bordeaux cla

Despite early indications that they would only receive 1,000 tickets for their upcoming match with Bordeaux, Celtic have announced that the French club will increase their allocation to 3,500 to accommodate the huge demand from supporters in Scotland and Ireland.

The original 1,000 would have left a large number of Celtic fans heartbroken for the UEFA Cup second round first-leg clash in France on October 26, especially after they took a huge following to Lyon last October for a UEFA Cup tie. The club admitted they were worried about the situation and, after talks today with the French club, they have been granted their wish.

A Celtic spokesman said, “Celtic met with officials from Bordeaux and security authorities today. We are pleased that following discussions we have been able to secure 3,500 tickets for Celtic supporters.”

The Glasgow giants lost last season's game 1-0 in France and eventually crashed out of the competition. However, with the backing of their fans they will be looking for a better result to take back to Parkhead for the second leg a fortnight later.

The spokesman added, “We didn't think we were going to get 3,500 tickets for this game which was causing us a bit of concern. But we have held these negotiations with Bordeaux and they are happy to give us more tickets which is a great lift for us.”
