Sean O’Brien sat out training at Ireland’s Carton House base this morning due to a tight hamstring.

However, the Leinster and Ireland flanker remains in contention for a place on the team to face Wales in Ireland’s Six Nations opener at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday (3pm).

Forwards coach Simon Easterby told RTÉ Sport: "He just pulled up yesterday a little bit tight and we just felt it was prudent not to train him today in light of what we have coming up at the weekend.

"The lads have got a down day tomorrow [and] it’s important that we don’t throw players in to training if we feel a day of recovery will see them right by the weekend so it’s more a prudent thing."

Coach Joe Schmidt will name his starting line-up on Friday.

Meanwhile, Garry Ringrose and Jordi Murphy both partook in training this morning, although neither have been added to the squad.

Leinster centre Ringrose, 21, was called up to train with the panel one day after versatile back Luke Fitzgerald was ruled out for the entire tournament with a knee injury.
