Geraghty scoops major sports award

One of Ireland's most prolific and popular jockeys, Barry Geraghty, was last night named as the the RTÉ/Hibernian Sports Personality of the Year. The jockey scooped one of Irish sport's most prestigious titles following a public vote, with the award results being broadcast live from the Burlington Hotel.

The 26-year-old dediacated the award to the memory of the three Irish jockeys, Kieran Kelly, Sean Cleary and Timmy Houlihan that died this year. Other award winners included Team Ireland, for the Special Olympics, and hurling legend Eddie Keher.
