Kingman was crowned Cartier Horse of the Year at the 24th annual Cartier Racing Awards in London.

The outstanding three-year-old colt won his last four starts all in Group One company for owner-breeder Khalid Abdullah, trainer John Gosden and jockey James Doyle.

After suffering his sole career defeat in the Qipco 2000 Guineas, he proved himself the best miler in Europe with victories in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, St James's Palace Stakes, Sussex Stakes and the Prix Jacques le Marois.

In the horse of the year category, Kingman triumphed over last year's winner Treve, Australia and Noble Mission.

Kingman also took the honours in the Cartier Three-Year-Old colt division ahead of dual Derby winner Australia, The Grey Gatsby and Charm Spirit.

Noble Mission, a full brother to Frankel, was named Cartier Older Horse of the Year from Treve.

Also owned and bred by Khalid Abdullah and ridden by Doyle, the Jane Cecil-trained six-year-old picked up three Group Ones, culminating in an emotional victory in the Qipco Champion Stakes.

Taghrooda, bred and owned by Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, from the Gosden stable and ridden by Paul Hanagan, is the Cartier Three-Year-Old Filly for 2014.

She landed the Investec Oaks at Epsom on only her third start and then became the first filly since Pawneese in 1976 to follow up by beating her elders in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.

There was also an individual accolade for Sheikh Hamdan in the shape of the Cartier/Daily Telegraph Award of Merit following a stellar year that saw him crowned champion owner in Britain.

The Edward Lynam-trained Sole Power just got the nod over his stable companion Slade Power in the Cartier Sprinter division thanks to his victories in the King's Stand Stakes and Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes.

Leading Light, trained by Aidan O'Brien and ridden by Joseph O'Brien for a Coolmore syndicate, was crowned Cartier Stayer for 2014 after a close fight with Irish St Leger scorer Brown Panther.

Coolmore and both O'Briens also enjoyed success in the Cartier Two-Year-Old colt category with Gleneagles, winner of the National Stakes and first past the post in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere only to be demoted following an inquiry.

Tiggy Wiggy, winner of the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes, was named Cartier Two-Year-Old Filly of the Year to cap an excellent first season for Richard Hannon, champion trainer in his first season following the retirement of his father.

Cartier's racing consultant Harry Herbert said: "2014 was another exceptionally strong year for quality Flat racing in Europe and horses trained here did well the world over.

"Kingman is an excellent winner of the Cartier Horse Of The Year Award and overcame stiff opposition from Treve, Australia and Noble Mission. He was also successful in the Cartier Three-Year-Old Colt category.

"I wish to congratulate his connections and those of Noble Mission, Taghrooda, Sole Power, Leading Light, Gleneagles and Tiggy Wiggy for being Cartier Racing Award winners too.

"Sheikh Hamdan has been rewarded this year for his long-term investment in bloodstock and I am thrilled the Cartier Jury gave him the Cartier/Daily Telegraph Award Of Merit."
