Cathal Miller has been selected as the flag bearer for the Irish Team for the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games which will take place in the Olympic Stadium on 29 August.
Miller was selected by a ballot of Irish Paralympic team athletes and will follow in the footsteps of Patrice Dockery, the six-time Paralympian, who led out the Irish team in Beijing.
The 43-year-old from Artane in Dublin is participating in his second Paralympic Games having competed in Beijing.
In London, Miller will compete in the C5 track 1km time trial and 4km individual pursuit and in the C5 road time trial and road race.
In 2011, he secured bronze in the Sydney leg of the UCI Road World Cup and finished fourth in the 2010 World Championships.
Miller said: “I am absolutely delighted. It is a huge honour for me, my family and all my supporters.
"To be chosen by my fellow athletes makes it all the more special as there is a phenomenal amount of talent and experience in this Irish Team.”
